Summary

Description
English: Progress on the Hornibrook Highway viaduct, Redcliffe, 1933

View of progress on the Hornibrook Highway bridge, seen from the Clontarf side looking across Bramble Bay to Brighton. The bridge and approach roads were designed by G.O. Boulton, Chief Engineer and Director of M.R. Hornibrook Pty. Ltd. The bridge portals were designed by Mr John Beebe, architect. The bridge consisted of 290 thirty feet spans, two twenty-eight feet six inches spans, and two twenty-four feet six inches spans, making a total length between the portals of 8 806 lineal feet.

The bridge, or viaduct, spanned a wider stretch of water than any other bridge in Australia and the quantity of first class hardwood timbers used was greater than any other bridge of its kind in the world (Information taken from: M.R. Hornibrook Pty. Ltd., The new gateway to Redcliffe and the great North Coast : official souvenir of the opening of the Hornibrook Highway, 1935).
