Summary[edit]

This image, made in September, 2010, shows two switch mechanisms for moving shells between two pairs of trolley tracks on the ceiling of one of the shell rooms for the flank magazine of Btty Kellogg Pit A.

Each pair of I-beam tracks has a short piece of I-beam that can be swung towards one track or the other to switch shells that come around the curved piece of track at the back of the shell room onto the appropriate track for the trip to the shell room door, which lies about 50 ft. back behind the camera. The operating levers for the switches can be seen on the wall, with their handles toward the floor. The alcove in the wall between these levers once held an oil lamp or electric light. The fluorescent lighting (now inoperative) is a modern addition.
