HE GOOD OLD DAYS. The Armitage-Herschell Co., North Tonawanda, N. Y., is oneof the oldest established manufacturers of riding galleries, minia-ture railways and other pleasure park attractions, in the country,and the companys miniature railway is coming into extensive favorwith street railway managers as an attractive feature of popularresorts. The outfit comprises a miniature locomotive which isan exact fac simile of the regular type of passenger steam loco-motives, and 10 passenger cars with a capacity of seating 40 child- The following is a copy of the first street railway franchisegranted in Birmingham, Ala., and is interesting reading, though itmay make some of our readers feel just a little bit envious. This contract made and entered into this, the 19th day of May,1882, by and between the mayor and aldermen of Birmingham,parties of the first part, and Benjamine F. Roden, W. H. Morrisnrirl associates, parties of the second part, witnesseth:

One of the best of theseequipments has been placed in the park of the Oil City (Pa.), Rail-way Co., where it has afforded great sport for the public and pro-portionate profit to the managers during the summer. The Armi-tage-Herschell Co.s factory is believed to be the largest of its kind,and will well repay inspection. Visitors to Niagara Falls are ex-tended a cordial invitation to stop at North Tonawanda for thispurpose, and all who are interested will receive catalogue and pricelist upon application. The accompanying engraving shows the latest design of carsand locomotive. There are four seats in each car, which hold 12children, or eight grown people each.
