Tourmaline-feldspar-quartz from the Cretaceous of Namibia. (~2.45 cm across at its widest)

Black = schorl tourmaline Light-colored material - microcline feldspar and quartz

This is a schorl tourmaline-rich sample from the Erongo Granite of Namibia. The Erongo Granite is a subvolcanic ring dike granite. It represents magma that cooled underneath an ancient, now-deeply eroded volcano.

Geologic unit: Erongo Granite, Erongo Complex (Erongo Volcanic Complex), Damara Orogenic Zone (Damara Belt), ~earliest Cretaceous, 144 Ma

Locality: unrecorded site at Lions Head (= southern Erongo Complex), 30 to 40 km northwest of the town of Karibib, Erongo Mountains, Karibib District, Erongo Region, northwest-central Namibia
