English: Front office of VDL Nedcar factory.
Français : Soucieux d’accroitre ses capacités de production, Daf décide à la fin des années 60 d’investir dans un nouvel outil au nord de Maastricht: Born, opérationnel en 1968.

Volvo le récupère dès 75 et le conserve jusque 92, année où débarque Mitsubishi. L’usine est rebaptisée NedCar et, 10 ans plus tard, le nippon porte sa participation à 100% avant de se désengager en 2013.

Elle est depuis la propriété de VDL Groep, surtout connu pour ses autobus/autocars autrefois commercialisés sous les noms Berkhof, Bova (assemblés à Valkenswaard, en banlieue d’Eindhoven) et Jonckheere (Roeselare, Belgique), et sous-traite des petites séries pour BMW.

La production montait à 170 000 unités en 2017 pour 210 000 l’année suivante, occupant un peu plus de 6 500 salariés sur un site de 925 000 m².

Près de 5 millions de véhicules ont quitté les chaines en un demi-siècle, dont:

  • Daf 66 (1972-75) puis sa cousine rebadgée Volvo 66 (1975-81)
  • Volvo 340/360 (1976-91)
  • Volvo 440/460 (1987-97)

  • Mitsubishi Carisma (1995-2004)
  • Mitsubishi Colt (2004-2012)
  • Mini (2014- )
  • BMW X1 (2017- )
