Summary

Description Centre half Vince Matthews joined Tranmere Rovers from Bolton in 1925 and never missed a match until he was transferred to Sheffield United for £1,000 in 1927. Whilst with the Blades, he went on to play for England against France and Belgium at the end of the 1927/28 season. Born in Aylesbury, he returned to Buckinghamshire when his career finished, and he died in 1950. A cultured attacking centre half, he was well ahead of his time.
