Summary

Description
English: Color Shaded Relief derived from the Global WAC digital terrain model (GLD100), centered on Von Kármán crater. View is 380 km wide (500m/pixel). Equidistant Cylindrical projection.

Shaded relief images are created from the digital terrain model by illuminating the surface from a given Sun direction and elevation above the horizon; to convey an absolute sense of height the resulting grayscale pixels are painted with colors that represent the altitude.

See palette.

The Chinese Chang'e 4 spacecraft landed in Von Kármán in January 2019. The central peak of the crater is now called Mons Tai, and three small craters within Von Kármán are called Hegu, Tianjin, and Zhinyu.
