Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) WMCA (AM)
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) To support encyclopedic discussion of this work in this article. The image is specifically needed to support the following point(s) discussed in the "Beatles" section of this Wikipedia article:

To support how WMCA-AM and its personnel played a critical role in the dissemination and promotion of popular cultural events, specifically the first arrival in the United States of the British musical act known as the Beatles.

To support the relationship of WMCA-AM and its personnel with world celebrities such as the aforementioned, corroborating claims that WMCA was actively engaged with world pop culture figures when it was the top-rated (most listened to) radio station in New York City in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966.

To provide pictorial evidence that WMCA-AM and its personnel had personal contact with the British musical act known as the Beatles, specifically on 10 February 1964, beyond stating the same via text alone.

Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
The use of this image could not be served with an alternative, free illustration - because there are no other "candid" photographic images which directly link WMCA-AM personnel to the British musical act known as the Beatles, i.e., images which place them together in the same venue at the Plaza Hotel in New York on 10 February 1964.
Not replaceable with
textual coverage because
(WP:NFCC#1)
Among radio and musical historians, there is disagreement as to the role of WMCA-AM in introducing and then forging a close relationship with the musical act known as the Beatles - vs. the more widely discussed relationship between the group and competitors WINS-AM and WABC in New York. This discussion has come at the expense and exclusion of WMCA - despite WMCA's documented status as New York City's "most listened to" radio station in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966. The image accomplishes what text alone cannot - which is indisputable proof that dispels erroneous suggestions that WMCA-AM personnel never met the British pop group "in person" - nor had a mutually advantageous promotional partnership. The image - combined with the text - puts an end to such doubts raised by skeptics.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) The image cannot be reproduced satisfactorily in low-resolution and is presented as such on Wikipedia to avoid commercial infringement. Any high resolution example of this image could be construed as a violation of copyright law in the absence of permission from the heir to photographer William "PoPsie" Randolph's estate, son Michael Randolph. The public notation in the caption directly referencing the source material's ownership provides a link and a contact name where a clear, ultra-high resolution image can be obtained for purchase or for commercial licensing. Its use here on Wikipedia is for non-profit, encyclopedic discussion purposes only and is purposely digitized to prevent mis-use at higher resolutions.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
The appearance of this image on Wikipedia will not harm any commercial opportunities of its owner. As a former news director of an ABC Radio affiliate with a professional degree in journalism from San Diego State University, schooled in the use of libel, defamation, fair use and copyright laws for public consumption, the use of a single black-and-white, low-resolution image for non-commercial use by a non-profit entity - will not harm the commercial opportunities of the owner, so long as the image is low resolution and credited to its owner as is required by print and broadcast copyright law. Providing a public notation in the caption which directly references the ownership of the source image - which includes a link and a contact name where a clear, ultra-high resolution image can be obtained for purchase or for commercial licensing - without the grease pencil markings seen in the uploaded low-resolution contact sheet image - provides not only proper attribution - but also added protection from misuse without negotiated compensation to the owner.
Other information Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws, and the stricter requirements of Wikipedia's non-free content policies, because:

Mitchel Reed, Harry Harrison - with The Beatles, i.e., George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and John Lennon - in the Baroque Room, the Plaza Hotel, New York City, 10 February 1964. News citation source: [Spizer, Bruce (2003). The Beatles Are Coming!. 498 Productions. pp. 158–167.]

It is of much lower resolution than the original. Copies made from it will be of very inferior quality.

The photo is only being used for informational purposes.

Its inclusion in the article adds significantly to the article because the photo and its historical significance are the object of discussion in the article.
