Description
English: Title: Washington, D.C. District of Columbia and Maryland boundary line at Wisconsin Avenue in the evening
Taken one evening in June or July 1942, this photo shows the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Western Avenues, at the boundary of the Village of Chevy Chase in Maryland and the neighborhood of Friendship Heights in Washington, D.C. The view is south, looking down Wisconsin into the District of Columbia. Two Capital Transit streetcars are visible, the near one arriving at and the far one departing from the Friendship Heights loop that marked the northernmost point of the Wisconsin Avenue line at the time. Several automobiles are also partially visible, as is a gas station on the southwestern corner of the intersection. One sign points to the nearby intersection of Western and Military Road; another denotes the D.C.-Maryland border along Western. At left, on the northeast corner of the intersection, is one of the seven Garden Club of America Entrance Markers, carven stones set up in 1932 and 1933.
