Can I reduce number of pixels by covering them with other content?[edit]

Right now the image is 172,800 pixels. If I cover 72,800 of those pixels with text boxes and the like, would that satisfy the ideal of 100,000 pixels in non-free images? I think I could do that with meaningful debris field information taken directly from the report. Before anyone considers reducing the size of this image, please discuss it here, and please, if you know, tell me if reducing the number of pixels by covering them with other content is acceptable per WP policy. Why do people upload these thumbnails?[edit]

I'd almost be happier with no image. How is this not against the community standards? Thumbnails are utterly useless. If the image is in the public domain, post the high-resolution version. Olopoton (talk) 19:40, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
