To call the machine in this photograph a steam whistle is a laughable offense to the engineering institution that owns it. This, my dear friends, is a double-expansion steam engine. The large wheel to the right is a flywheel. The two cylinders share a common piston rod. Most assuredly, no steam whistle appears in this photograph.
