I'll take a look at this one. Harrias talk 10:48, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

  • I have no idea why the two references from The Observer (refs #8 and 17) claim to be on page 229 in the descriptions on the linked page, they actually both appear on page 6, presumably of the sports section.
Well that's an interesting point. I use the page number provided by the archive. I assume that it's the overall page number in that edition of The Observer once you take into account all the preceding supplements. What's your suggestion? Sometimes the page numbers are obscured so it would be a shame to use an inconsistent approach. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:14, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ref #20 similarly appears on page 13 of the sports supplement, rather than page 43, and also needs a date of publication adding.
Likewise. Date added. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:14, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mark ref #23 as being from the BNA.
Added. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:14, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mark all BNA references with |url-access=subscription.
Done. I've got a few of those to do across the other early play-off articles! I wonder if a 'bot could be instigated for this? The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:14, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ref #26 needs an endash, rather than hyphen in the title.
Oh, just shoot me now. Addressed.... The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:14, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ref #29 is actually on page 4 of the sports supplement.
Likewise above. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:14, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Refs #33 and #34 need endashes, rather than hyphens in the titles.
Likewise above.....! The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:14, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Prose[edit]

  • "..opponents for their play-off semi-final was.." "opponents" and "was" don't match.
Indeed, I was probably thinking "opposition". Addressed. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "..to give Wolves ahead.." Put instead of give, presumably.
Well put. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "After a goalless first half, Kevin Cooper give Wolves into the lead.." A similar issue.
Man that's rubbish. Done. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Dublin then missed a chance early in the second half, shooting wide from 6 yards (5.5 m) early in the second half." I'm guessing this happened early in the second half?!
I'm not sure, I'll check.... Oh yes. Definitely second half. So good I said it twice. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "..and ensuring them a 2–1 aggregate victory." "ensuring" doesn't seem the right word here.
Reworded. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "..with fifteen with Marcelo on twelve." The repetition of "with" throws this sentence off slightly.
Agreed, I should read these things. Addressed. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce had been appointed five months earlier, replacing Mick Mills and Jim Barron. Birmingham secured their place in the semi-finals with a win on the final day of the regular season. He captained Norwich City as a player in the 1980s.." Having the sentence about securing their place in the middle makes "He captained.." seem out of place; can it be moved out of the way?
Indeed, appears odd. I've moved it entirely out that section to the "route to the final" section which is much more appropriate. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In anticipation of good weather it was announced that the roof of the stadium would be closed "in the interests of play-off spectator comfort"." It would be interesting (but not necessary for GA) to expand on this a little.
Would it? I felt even adding it was a little bit trivial, but potentially of note because so few such matches in the UK have been played under a roof. I'll see if there's anything else. Did you have anything specific in mind? The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Some of the reasons given in the linked article were interesting, about better picture quality for TV etc. Don't worry too much, it certainly won't affect whether I pass the GA. Harrias talk 17:45, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Find a link, or footnote "toe-poked".
Linked glossary. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The match details are a bit sparse; is there anything more around?
If you can find it, let me know. As usual I've trawled all my available sources. If The Times has something, I'd appreciate it?
  • "Carter himself said:"I won't.." Missing a space.
Done. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's it for the first look. Harrias talk 07:46, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Harrias cheers buddy, I've addressed most of them, there are a few queries above. Thanks. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 08:24, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Added extras[edit]

  • "The winners of these semi-finals competed for the final place for the 2001–02 season in the Premiership." Not sure how I missed this before. They were competing to join the 2002–03 Premiership, not 2001–02!
Gah. Cookie cutter fail. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 18:42, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The game ended goalless in regular time sending the match into extra time. Seconds into the first half.." I think we needed to clarify that it was the first half of extra time. Ideally in a way that doesn't repeat "extra time".
Merged the sentences to avoid what appears to be an unavoidable repeat. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 18:42, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "..with Darren Carter taking.." Avoid noun plus -ing.
Done. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 18:42, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Given that Bruce was a defensive player, I'm not sure mentioning how many goals he scored is that relevant to the article, nor him. That said, it is neither here nor there for GA status, so meh. Harrias talk 17:45, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, it was just there as some background that he played at the Budgies for a bit. I don't think it's a problem to leave it in. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 18:42, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Harrias cheers again, that lot addressed. Anything else? The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 18:42, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's it, I'll pass this. My Times access isn't working at the moment, if you move this on towards GA, give me a ping nearer the time, and I'll check for you. Harrias talk 18:57, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers, I'm guessing you mean FA, and yes, I will. It would marvellous to maximise the sources as I can't get Gale access. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 19:13, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
