Different Kruses?[edit]

This player has AFL Tables entries at both George Kruse and Bill Kruse and the names seem to be used interchangeably in places. There are references out there to a George Kruse who played and administrated at Footscray between 1897 and 1906 [1]. But, there is reference to a Kruse taking the field for Footscray on 7 June 1902, the same day as the article subject's sole game for Fitzroy. Suspect there is a second Kruse (probably Bill) and these may be separate players, but have no references to prove it. Aspirex (talk) 20:48, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This issue was identified and discussed in BigFooty History forum [2] a couple of years ago and the outcome was subsequently confirmed with AFL official historians. Originally (many years ago) the player had been misidentified as Bill Kruse, but it had subsequently been identified that Bill was playing for Footscray on that day and it was determined that the Fitzroy player was his brother [3] George Kruse. This has largely been corrected in online sources (I cannot explain why AFL Tables still has a Bill Kruse record) but some older written references do refer to Bill Kruse as the player.
