More Other Places

"More other locations" seems rather strange wording; any particular reason for this choice of words? LacsiraxAriscal (talk) 15:36, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Recent Japanese Update

The recent Japanese updates (listed in here as Bonin Islands and more other locations) also consisted of some Tokyo tourists destinations. As well as famous temple Senso-ji, Google also addedthe first river on Street View (the Sumida). See: http://muza-chan.net/japan/index.php/blog/google-street-view-on-water . Is this worthy of inclusion? To me it seems rather important... LacsiraxAriscal (talk) 15:36, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Okayama

I have recently been through some of the cities listed as having no HD coverage to verify whether any had been given yet. I made two changes, both from no HD to some HD coverage (bold italics): the Japanese cities of Chiba and Okayama. Chiba is fine, but as for Okayama, the only HD coverage is the castle. The rest of the city is still non-HD; should this be considered mixed coverage or should the castle be seperate form the rest of the city? I have currently made it mixed coverage for the reference. LacsiraxAriscal (talk) 16:14, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Recently Added Section

A section of text was added underneath the table, detailing some announcements Google had made involving the future of Street View. This did not seem relevant to a "timeline" of Street View, and was not a clear new section (in other words, it just appeared to be a random block of text on Street View); as a result, I removed it. It WAS however well cited and featured some information not seen on the pages relevant to it; if anyone has the time to clean it up a little bit and find a relevant place to add it, it may become more useful.

 • It was unfortunately an IP adress update so I couldn't message them to request they do it... I think (I am still very new...) LacsiraxAriscal (talk) 00:19, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Formatting Error?

Why does the most recent update to the page have some sites which are not bold? I've checked the formatting, and they should be... they have the 3 apostrophes, but for some reason about half of them are appearing unbold... Any ideas? LacsiraxAriscal (talk) 22:28, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Map

Could someone please update the world map image, as South Korea now has imagery in Seoul and Pusan. --ERAGON (talk) 13:36, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Jordan

The list and map needs to be updated as a portion of Jordan is now on Street View, specifically the outskirts of Jerusalem. 70.72.223.215 (talk) 13:30, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

There is no Street View in Jordan yet. --MSalmon (talk) 14:05, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Jordan? Maybe Palestine. The border between Israel and Jordan or Palestine is not very accurate in that area. GSV was not allowed yet in Palestine/West Bank neither Jordan. - EugεnS¡m¡on(14) ® 14:35, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Adding country names

This article contains countries' flags, but not their names. This makes it impossible to search for Street View updates by country. I added country names but it was reverted by User:Eugen Simion 14 arguing that I should have discussed it here first. Well, what does everyone think about adding country names? You can see what the article looked like with country names, here. I believe it would be incredibly useful. Pristino (talk) 00:53, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Looks OK to me, though I wouldn't do that weird caps thing, where the start of each word is larger than the rest of it - just use caps and lower case or all normal caps, I'd say. But generally in favour. LacsiraxAriscal (talk) 21:51, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

 1. United States — Small.
 2. United States — Small caps.
 3. United States — Small all caps.
 4. United States — Normal.
 5. United States — All caps.
Which one would you prefer? Pristino (talk) 22:49, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
I prefer to put the name of the country at the bottom just like that:
Romania Bucharest, Popeşti-Leordeni, Voluntari, Afumaţi, Mogoşoaia and other locations in Romania
not Romania: Bucharest, Popeşti-Leordeni, Voluntari, Afumaţi, Mogoşoaia. What about that? - EugεnS¡m¡on(14) ® 07:28, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
What about when they're aren't any other locations though; i.e. a museum? It makes more sense in my opinion to put it at the front... As for the best writing to use... probably just normal, I think. LacsiraxAriscal (talk) 14:33, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Just like that
United Kingdom National Gallery (United Kingdom)
Netherlands Royal Palace of Amsterdam (The Netherlands) - EugεnS¡m¡on(14) ® 17:37, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

How about for normal updates:

 1. France Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Lille, Toulouse in France, or
 2. Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Lille, Toulouse in France

And for museum views:

 1. United Kingdom National Gallery (United Kingdom), or
 2. National Gallery in the United Kingdom

I like #2 in both cases. Pristino (talk) 19:34, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Maybe #1 I think the flag must be always in front of a list. - EugεnS¡m¡on(14) ® 19:55, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I think the flag should go first too. But the first one's fine by me. LacsiraxAriscal (talk) 18:04, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Great Barrier Reef in the latest update? Where? What's the source for that?

I see no evidence for Street View being available on the reef. If this is available through some other interface I would recommend removing it from the list until the main Street View interface shows it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Captainmunden (talkcontribs) 00:41, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

It's not available, it is only available as a panoramic image on Google Maps --MSalmon (talk) 08:54, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Right, I see one now in the Molokini crater. Those panorama dots are tougher to see, but perfectly valid to show in the list on this page. There's also a good BBC article about it for extra references. Captainmunden (talk) 11:52, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

How have people handled small updates in the past?

I noticed today that Google just updated many cities and interstate highways in northern Illinois to the newest HD imagery. I haven't yet found any other updates, and wasn't sure if people tended to report small updates like this or not. I figured it might be good to at least wait and see if they issue a blog post about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Captainmunden (talkcontribs) 01:50, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Midway was added at some point

The uninhabited Midway Island - former air base west of Hawaii - was added to street view at some point. I've no idea when but it would be worth noting in the applicable part of the timeline. 70.72.211.35 (talk) 02:03, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

West Bank?

Several editors tried to insert info that the January 2013 update included locations in Israel and West Bank, which was promptly reverted by other editors. The naming issue is pretty sensitive in the region. In order to avoid a never-ending edit war, and knowing that the imagery only included areas under Israeli control, may I suggest that as long as local political situation does not clear up, any such reference to the GSV coverage of these areas (1) has a proper reference provided, (2) uses a more neutral term - like, for instance, Israeli-administered (or, Israeli-controlled) areas. kashmiri 01:31, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

There is coverage of two areas of the West Bank now: Highway 90 alongside the Dead Sea and Jordan River and a small section of Highway 1 that connects to 90. For now, regardless of who has control, this is officially and legally a part of the West Bank. "West Bank" does not have the international recognition of a country. The same is true for so many other territories listed together with countries that perhaps are under control of some other country (often with SV, listed separately). So for now, even as Google is producing it technically as part of Israel's Street View, it makes sense to list "West Bank" separately. Sebwite (talk) 01:35, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
As far as I understand, the issue was with the phrase "Israel and the West Bank", as if suggesting they have similar status. kashmiri 02:03, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Map is incorrect

Colours in map and in legends do not match and there are many countries where street view is marked as "planned" while it has been available for some time in those countries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.95.91.155 (talk) 12:43, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Japan not navy blue on SVG image world map

Hello there. I am confused on how and why Japan says that it is coming soon and is planned on the SVG image of the world showing where Street View is and isn't covered. Meanwhile when I look on Google Maps at Japan it is on there. This is most likely an error as it's next to Russia and several other countries that the map claims are in planning phases.

''GOURLEYO'' Edit at Wikia! (talk) 19:39, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

It only has partial coverage, not full coverage. Granted, it has far closer to full coverage than somewhere like Russia or Thailand, but it's still not complete. LacsiraxAriscal (talk) 19:53, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

How is "complete" coverage defined in this article? As far as I know there are no countries where Google has driven on all public/legally driveable roads.87.93.78.105 (talk) 11:57, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

I did wonder that! I suppose full coverage equates to a decent amount of coverage in every region of the country, especially the main population centres. For example, when this post was made, the coverage of Japan included NONE of the island of Shikoku. Granted, the recent update has added some more, but some major cities (I noticed Kanazawa for example) remain uncovered. At the end of the day, it is subjective, which is certainly not ideal. Tourist and other views on the map image

We need to do something about all the tourist spots and other views been added to street view recently.

We've got UAE and India which has tourist/other views not on the map, Mountain views for Argentina, Tanzania and Nepal and we've got Antarctica which is considered as "partial coverage" when in reality I see them no different than UAE or India. So we should do something about these,

 1. Mark these countries as partial coverage.
 2. Make the museum views category to also include Tourist/Mountain/Ski/Other views or just call it Other Views.
 3. Create a new category like Tourist View or something.

Date of the Gatwick Addition

The date listed for Gatwick's internal Street View is not correct. This update has been in place for two weeks. Here is a post on Google+ from Oct 23 for instance: https://plus.google.com/112760975684129610020/posts/2D7JL2e96RR

Yes, all of the 'big media' types and bloggers only caught on around Nov 7th, but it was in place for at least two weeks prior. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Captainmunden (talkcontribs) 01:03, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Date of Sendai Airport addition?

Similar to Gatwick, Sendai Airport in Japan is fully in Street View (all levels, seemingly all areas--very similar setup to Gatwick). Any idea when this was added? The date on the images is September 2013, so it had to be recently. Would like this to be added to the list if someone can confirm the date. I wasn't able to find out through a Google search. (I don't want to insert my irrelevant personal opinion, but I am so pleased to see these inside-the-airport additions to GSV!) Moncrief (talk) 19:01, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

It's very difficult to say the day exacly. Google adds near daily inside street view panoramas, and only major or linked updates we know the day. - EugεnS¡m¡on(14) ® 22:02, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
That's a shame. You all have done a great job updating this timeline, so I didn't realize there were some adds that were impossible to source datewise. And I don't suppose there's a way for an addition to be included here if we don't know the day it was added. (P.S. The Sendai coverage is true full Street View coverage a la Gatwick, not the indoor maps Google has commonly for airports and other buildings now. If this level of indoor Street View is truly "added daily" as you say, I wish there was a list of it somewhere. I only found out about Sendai's coverage after finding an article mentioning how rare such complete indoor Street View coverage is.) Moncrief (talk) 15:18, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Sources for these entries?

I was just curious to know exactly where most of the claims in this article originate. I mean, most of them are completely unsourced and many would be difficult to just find at random while playing with Google Maps. I know that most everything listed is probably true, but shouldn't it really be backed up with credible sources? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Survivorfan1995 (talkcontribs) 01:57, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

With the timeline list getting so long, there should be a discussion about how to better arrange it.

To me, the list has become so long that it's difficult to wade through. I thought I'd present a few options and a place for other people to contribute ideas I missed.

 1. Obviously, people can decide to not alter the table.
 2. Each year could be put into its own table, with only the most current year with entries being open by default.
 3. The most recent two years with entries will be in a table on their own that's open by default, with all other years in a huge table below it that is closed by default.

I don't really have a strong opinion about the last two, but I feel like a format change would improve the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Captainmunden (talkcontribs) 18:38, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for those links. Those aren't really Street Views, they're point views of specific attractions. My impression of "partial coverage" is that at least some entire areas are covered and you can move about in them, such as in Iqaluit, or areas which are substantially highlighted if you look at this view of the map. Pakistan really only seems to have views of tourist attractions in selected points. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 19:23, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

It should be showing June 2015 as newest imagery. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lover-of-historical-records (talkcontribs) 14:18, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Palestine

The table "Current coverage" contains Palestine, but going to Gaza strip or West-bank in the GSV, there is no coverage over there. How come? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oreneya (talkcontribs) 15:36, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

Size of the photo

Is changing a photo size 1000px into 350px illegal?

 1. This is a problem (The file is too large that affects the visibility of "other languages" column)
 2. I'm able to fix it
 3. It is a minor problem (Will you be offended by resizing a extremely large picture? Hardly.)
 4. If every edit requires permission and discussing, then Wikipedia must be deceiving me by claiming itself "free encyclopedia".

Please comment on this. I don't understand why everything require permission here in English Wikipedia.--owennsonMeeting RoomCertificates) 10:15, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Is not a photo is a map. Is not illegal to change the size. It is better to have a big map in order to better observe small countries.- EugεnS¡m¡on(14) ® 10:20, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
I can click on that map easily too to look for smaller countries. Alternative exists. Then why a whole bunch of bilateral maps of small countries did not resize as big as 1500px?--owennsonMeeting RoomCertificates) 10:27, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi! Google Street View is now available in Ecuador. But, that Google product is still not available in Venezuela and Paraguay. Somebody would be ask to Google for Street View in Venezuela and Paraguay please, because Caracas is a metropolitan city perfect for Google Street View. --WikiAnthony (talk) 00:23, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Newer imagery in Australia

Hello. I was browsing through Street View when I saw imagery from August and September this year (2015). It is not mentioned yet but it is true. 101.191.213.188 (talk) 08:51, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Kosovo issue

Fact that someone added the Republic of Kosovo is extremely offensive to Serbs and it is a disputed territory, not recognized by UN, so the only correct thing to do is either make a compromis and put both Serb and Albanian flag or just Serbian flag, as the UN resolution 1244 states, anything else is pure vandalism and the person that did this deserves to be banned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.198.198.151 (talk) 11:41, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

I've added the flag of Serbia next to Kosovo's (Kosovo's first, then Serbia's, in strict alphabetical order). I hope this solves the dispute. Pristino (talk) 16:53, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
No, the issue is for something else. See the history page. User:Avala started it. We actually don't need Serbian flag here. - EugεnS¡m¡on(14) ® 17:10, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

Kosovo should usually carry in all articles but this is not about the status dispute. It's a simple fact that there is no GSV as the article here suggests. The same goes for Armenia I've just noticed. It's also a promo.--Avala (talk) 20:44, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Original research in Timeline of introductions

I would like to point out the fact that most of this article is original research. There are practically no sources in the Timeline of introductions section.--Avala (talk) 20:51, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 7 December 2015

Please fix the spelling of "beaches" on the most recent change to the 2015 Street View additions. Whatmybike (talk) 16:26, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Done - thanks for pointing that out - (although it is easier to find if you tell us the incorrect spelling, not the correct one} - Arjayay (talk) 16:57, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Map update request

Please update the following image: Google Street View coverage.png

Before
After

Please update again to add Namibia as landmarks only. 179.223.42.31 (talk) 22:25, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Update the map

Please update the map to change color for Namibia to green and Puerto Rico to gray, and add the following description: Namibia added, Puerto Rico is gray again since the Coco Rio was removed. I think the map should represent the CURRENT situation, isn't it? 179.223.96.114 (talk) 17:39, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Omit third-party imagery

I propose that this article only keep a timeline of Google-collected imagery, as identified on the official map and omit third-party-provided imagery. Including user-provided views (orange dots and blue dots) isn't actually providing information on when a new city receives Google coverage, and therefore damages the integrity of the article.

For instance, the update listed for 25 December 2015 reads:

 • Cyprus Kyrenia Gate, in Cyprus[124] - this is an attraction view, but was provided by Makro 360, a third-party company
 • Panama Parque de Las Madres, in Panama[125] - another attraction view contributed by user Luis A. Alvarado R.
 • Zimbabwe Mystique Events, in Zimbabwe[126] - this is a private business, with imagery contributed by user Bob Stapleton
 • Qatar Hamad International Airport, in Qatar[127] - this is an interior view contributed in September 2014 by user Saurav R Tuladhar
 • Morocco Parc Issil, in Morocco[128] - this is an attraction view contributed by ZEDIX360, a third-party company

Not only is the formatting odd (including the country name followed by the attraction), but all of these are third-party contributions, not all of which were contributed in December 2015. I have therefore removed them. TheAckademie (talk) 14:57, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

You are right. I just removed them. - EugεnS¡m¡on(14) ® 14:59, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

All locations listed is public, cannot remove again. Diretor Adobe (talk) 15:21, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Will be very hard to add all that locations, the article will be destroyed, we have the remove all third party data, that are not added by Google Team. - EugεnS¡m¡on(14) ® 15:27, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
I agree with EugenSimion: because most any third-party user can upload 360-degree imagery, the number of locations becomes immense and difficult to manage. Further, they don't have a typical launch date like the rest of the Google content. It doesn't make sense to list 2014 content under December 2015, for instance. It would also be difficult to distinguish which of the third-party content is advertising for companies (which we wouldn't want to list in this article) versus legitimate attractions with imagery produced by Google. TheAckademie (talk) 16:41, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
How do you know that the real streetview images (those with a moving camera) have not been taken by contracted people? I mean images not taken by Google employees but by another person who creates the images under a contract with Google? And the photo spheres and indoor views are also taken by people who have agreed on a contract with Google. The Kyrenia Gate in Cyprus is a photo sphere which is marked (C) Google. So far we have avoided photo spheres, single stationary view. --07:49, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
