Tank, Tak and Taank is a surname found in Indian subcontinent. The last name is largely found among communities of North West Indian States like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana.[1][2] In India they follow Hinduism and Islam.

In Historical books which was mostly written by muslim scholars Tank was mentioned as tribe or caste which was associated with sonar, rajput, Khatri and jaat castes.[3] [4][5][6] Tanks are mentioned as converted muslims from other religion and castes.[7] [8][9] their is an example where tank tribe got converted to Islam by own choice or by relationship tais.[7]

Muzaffar Shah and Zafer khan Muzaffar mentioned themselves as covered muslims from a lower subdivision sect of Hindu Khatris called 'Tank'[10][11]
