LOCATION AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTIES

The railroad of the Ohio & Kentucky Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad extending northwardly from Ohio and Kentucky Junction to Cannel City, Ky., a distance of 25.777 miles. The railroad of the Caney Valley Railway Company, which is leased to and operated by the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge railroad extending northwardly from Cannel City to Licking River, Ky., a distance of 12.810 miles. The Caney Valley Railway Company also owns yard and side tracks as shown in the trackage table in Appendix 1. The carrier wholly owns and uses 30.069 miles of all tracks, and uses but does not own 14.669 miles of all tracks, which are classified in the trackage table in Appendix 1.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated August 9, 1894, under the general laws of the State of Kentucky, for the purpose of constructing, maintaining, and operating a railroad to extend from Morehead, Ky., to Walnut Grove, Ky. By an amendment to its charter, dated September 17, 1895, the location was changed to extend from a point on the Lexington and Eastern Railway Company, since named Ohio & Kentucky Junction.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, amounting to 25.777 miles, was all acquired by construction, during the period 1899 to January, 1902.

The Caney Valley Railway Company was incorporated August 3, 1910, under the general laws of the State of Kentucky, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Cannel City to Licking River, Ky. The date of its organization was not determined.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the Caney Valley Railway Company, extending from Cannel City to Licking River, Ky., a distance of 12.810 miles, was all acquired by construction during the period from August, 1910, to December, 1912. All construction work was performed by the Caney Contract Company, which does not appear to have been affiliated with the Caney Valley Railway Company.
