Tartan of the 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot, mustered in 1787. It is the Black Watch tartan with a black-guarded white over-check added over the green. This version of the image is not just full-sett, and cannot tile horizontally or vertically; this centred and very slightly zoomed out version is for comparison with other regimental tartans given similar treatment. Scottish Register of Tartans notes on this design: "The 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot is not the same as the later Regiment, the Argyll (or Argyle) and Sutherland Highlanders. In December 1777, John Campbell of Barbreck was authorised by the king to raise a Highland regiment within four months. Campbell was to have a colonelcy and the right to nominate officers. He was a veteran of the old 78th, or Fraser Highlanders, of 1756–63. The regiment was officially disbanded on 24 May 1784. This information was taken from http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/halew/74Regt.htm ." This is a normal, mirroring tartan.
