Summary

Description

In Tucson, Fourth Avenue, located near the University of Arizona campus, is full of alternative and hippie-oriented shops and restaurants. It is the closest thing Tucson has to San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury or Los Angeles's Venice Beach.

This is probably my favorite shop on Fourth Avenue: Antigone Books. This independent bookseller has many books that deal with feminist and other progressive topics. I can also pick up gifts and other items of similar interest; this is the place to come to for a refrigerator magnet that says "Sorry boys, I am lesbian."

In 2001, Tucson was my poverty-era home. This was one of the few places in town I felt home at.
