The British Rail (BR) Class 08 is a class of diesel-electric shunting locomotive. From 1953 to 1962, 996 locomotives were produced, making it the most numerous of all British locomotive classes. July 1990 47538 was involved in a collision with Class 08 08801 at Penzance. Although only sustaining superficial damage 47538 was, after a period in store at Exeter, withdrawn. However it was not until nearly 7 years latert that it was finally scrapped. 08801 has also been scrapped June 2000.
