Summary

Description
English: Mediaeval carving sometimes known as the "Somervail Stone", currently situated above the doorway of the church at Linton, Scottish Borders. The scene shows a knight on horseback, clad in a tunic or hauberk, with a round helmet, urging his horse against two large animals, the foreparts of which only are visible, and plunging his lance into the throat of one. Behind him is supposed to be the outline of another creature, apparently of a lamb. The image is said by tradition to be connected to the story of the Worm of Linton, although the heads of the monsters in this image are more like those of quadrupeds than of serpents.
