Summary

Description This exquisitive necklace of Princess Khenmet or Khnumit with shell pendants and two starfish (top) and twelve shell pendants (bottom) on display at the Ramses ll Exhibition De Young Museum at San Francisco, California, USA. Khenmet's jewellry was made with the decorative cloisonné technique of applied gold threads and tiny beads that was very popular outside Egypt, particularly in Syria and the area of the Aegean Sea.[1] Princess Khenmet or Khnumit was buried in pharaoh Amenemhat II's pyramid complex at Dahshur and, considering the 35 year reign of this king, is believed to have been this king's daughter in the powerful Twelfth Dynasty of Egypt during this country's Middle Kingdom of Egypt period.
