English: "THE RHODE ISLAND COLLISION" (Providence & Worcester Railroad, Valley Falls, RI). Wood engraved view: "SCENE OF THE LATE DISASTER ON THE PROVIDENCE AND WORCESTER R.R." (2 3/4" X 5 3/4"). The accompanying half-page article reads "The testimony derived from the coroner's inquest, and from other sources, relative to this dreadful catastrophe, is now so fully completed...The railroad upon which the accident occurred consists of a single track, extending from Providence, Rhode Island, to Worcester, Massachusetts. On the morning of the 12th inst. a train, consisting of seven passenger cars, left the village of Whitensville (Worcester, MA), at twenty-five minutes past six in the morning, bound for Providence...On the same morning, a train, comprising two passenger cars, left Providence at twenty minutes past seven A.M. for Worcester...The train from Whitensville is proved to have been seven minutes behind its time when it reached Valley Falls station, one mile from the the trains should have passed..."
