US congress bill requiring ByteDance to divest from TikTok or face a ban[edit]

This seems to be gathering momentum, but at the moment there's no mention of it here or at Restrictions on TikTok in the United States. Eldomtom2 (talk) 22:39, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The bill has passed the House of Representatives. Should this information be added onto the page? 174.130.41.36 (talk) 21:25, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion yes, and I see that someone added it. Jameson Nightowl (talk) 03:26, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Killings of TikTokers in Iraq[edit]

Hello! I came to add some sentences about the Death of Noor Alsaffar and Umm Fahad to the page, but wasn't sure what section would be useful to include the infomation on them, and the the topic more generally? I would welcome guidance from page-watchers on this. Lajmmoore (talk) 20:33, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They are under these categories.[1][2] Their articles are mostly about the influencers themselves, their deaths and the Iraqi government. There isn't that much information about TikTok the app or company. CurryCity (talk) 14:33, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think my question is more, should there be a secion on the page about them, and similar deaths as a result of activity on the app? Lajmmoore (talk) 08:16, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just for using the app? No. It appears the killings were due to how certain parts of society reacted to seeing things or people they don't like online. CurryCity (talk) 00:09, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Romney says real reason TikTok was banned 'cause it cannot be censored by Washington at will[edit]

Speaking at the McCain Institute on Friday alongside Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Romney lamented Israel’s inability to control the flow of information out of and about Gaza, despite its best efforts to restrict press access." -- CaribDigita (talk) 21:51, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That's not what is being said. The argument is that a geopolitical adversary can promote or demote content and target demographics with narratives to further the adversary's interests. Dplre (talk) 16:50, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
