Introduction

This page is for listing resources that may help new users and adoptees. For resources to be used by adopters please see here.

Joining the adoption program is easy, and there are two ways of getting adopted. Either look at the list of adopters who are actively seeking new adoptees here; if you find one you like, contact them on their talk page. The alternative is add the phrase {{subst:dated|adoptme}} to your user page, and we hope that it won't be too long before an experienced user will come along and offer to adopt you.

Dealing with conflict

Sometimes, against all best efforts, we get into conflicts with other users. The following links may help you gain the skills or services to help manage them:

  1. See this page to learn some negotiation skills.
  2. Seek assistance at requests for administrator attention or the administrator noticeboard.
  3. To dispute a block see Wikipedia:Appealing a block.
  4. The following category lists groups, policies and pages that may be able to help you. Category:Wikipedia dispute resolution

Userpage

Want to spice up your userpage?

  1. Find help at user page design center and the user page help wikiproject.
  2. Add userboxes! Use these to tell the visitor a little more about you, what you are against, what you like, etc.
  3. What do you speak? Use these to tell your userpage visitor that you speak various languages.
  4. Find something you like at a userpage, and drop it into yours.

Where to start

  2. No idea on how to contribute? See Wikipedia:Community Portal for places where you can help out.
  3. Wikipedia:Cheatsheet gives the basics of Wikipedia syntax; for more detailed information see Help:Editing.

Where to ask questions

  1. Well, obviously, try your adopter first of all. Don't have one? Then either add {{Adoptme}} to your user page, or contact a user seeking to adopt.
  2. If you have a technical question try the Help desk, and its FAQ. Alternatively add {{helpme}} to your talk page, state what your problem is and someone will come along and help soon.
  3. For general knowledge questions, the Reference desk is the place for you.
  4. Join the IRC channel, Live Help Chat, for one-on-one live assistance from volunteer helpers.
  5. Finally, you can always ask a question at our Adopt-a-User Talk Page, especially if you are having a problem with the Adoption process or your Adopter themselves.
