(Hey there) Little Miss Mary is a song written by American writing duo Roger Greenaway and Roger Cook.[1]

The song was first recorded in a whistling version by the British Whistling Jack Smith, as Hey there little Miss Mary. This single was released on June 23, 1967, by Deram Records on a double A-side together with the song Tom Hark by Rupert Bopape.[1]
Shortened to Little Miss Mary, it was published the same year in October with lyrics in a version by the Dutch band The Cats. They recorded the song on their first LP Cats as Cats Can and again a few years later on Times Were When (1972); both albums achieved gold status. In 2014, the song was released again in a remastered version on Complete, a limited edition of 1000 copies during the 50th anniversary of The Cats. The Cats' version was sung by Cees Veerman.[2][3][4]
In July 1968 there was another cover, this time on the A-side of the American band The Convention on the Buddah Records label.[1][5]
It is a love song in which the singer asks Mary to come out of her garden and to his yard. He wants their love to have time to grow, because nothing would blossom if she stayed with the other person.[1][5]
