Adriane Barbosa Nogueira Lopes (born 29 June 1976) is a Brazilian politician who has served as the mayor of Campo Grande since 2022. She previously served as the city's deputy mayor from 2017 to 2022. She is the first woman to occupy the city hall of Campo Grande and had previously served as vice-mayor of former mayor Marquinhos Trad. She has been a member of Progressistas since 2023, and she previously served as a member of Patriota.

Biography[edit]

Adriane Barbosa Nogueira was born on 29 June 1976 in Grandes Rios, Paraná,[1] and she moved to Campo Grande with her family at age nine. As a young adult, she worked selling ice cream while studying in university. She obtained a degree in law and theology and a postgraduate degree in public administration and city management. For four years, she worked in the Brazilian state penitentiary system. Lopes is married to fellow politician Lidio Lopes [Wikidata], and she has two children.[2]

Lopes was elected deputy mayor of Campo Grande, taking office on 1 January 2017, and she was reelected for a second term. She became mayor of Campo Grande on 1 April 2022 when incumbent mayor Marquinhos Trad [pt] resigned to seek higher office.[3] She was sworn in as mayor on 4 April 2022.[2] Upon taking office, she announced her intention to continue Trad's platform and agreements with counselors.[1] She has also emphasized public works as a major interest for her tenure as mayor.[3]

While serving as mayor, Lopes announced her departure from Patriota, prompting widespread speculation about which party she intended to join. Several prominent politicians sought to recruit Lopes to their respective parties, including former president Jair Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party, senator Tereza Cristina of the Progressistas, and senator Damares Alves of the Republicans.[4] In June 2023, Lopes changed her party allegiance to the Progressistas.[5]
