Ambalakarar
Ambalam is a title of the Kallar caste in Tamil Nadu. It is said that Kallar people with the title Ambalam are living in the south part of Alagarmalai. Now, it is added Ambalacharkar after the birth name like a caste name.[1]
In the Madras Census Report, 1891, Mr. H. A. Stuart writes that “ Ambalakkaran (ambalam, an open place ) is the usual designation of a head of a village in the Maravar and Kallar districts, and it is, or was the common agnomen of Kallar.<[2]
