The 11th legislature was dissolved by the direct rule in the framework of the Spanish constitutional crisis, following the Catalan declaration of independence on 27 October 2017 that supposed the cessation of the regional government and its imprisonment, including the Speaker of the Parliament, the call for elections on 21 December and the suspension of the autonomy until June 2018. The 12th Parliament was opened on January 2018.
