I didn't have a strong opinion about dividing MPs by nation, in the end, nor about dividing them by gender, as long as female MPs are maintained in the parent category too. The 'current MPs' division may prove useful, although I prefer the proposal to categorise by Parliament. But I do feel strongly about this subcategory - we do not need to subcategorise every MP category by nation; it devalues the reason for the original category, which is to bring together female UK MPs, of whom there have been relatively very few. To subcat by nation makes this category harder to use and therefore less useful - it goes too far. I am not happy with the unilateral change especially given the criticism made after the last round of changes. Mtiedemann 10:35, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You must remember that the subcats do not just belong to one category tree: they also belong to Category:English women, Category:Scottish women etc, and I feel that in time, once they become comprehensive, they will be very useful. Remember these gender cats are extremely new. I've got to say that originally I was not a fan, but they are growing on me.
