Do we really need this page?[edit]

As the talk title says, what exactly is the purpose of this 'category', other than arbitrarily list ONE person? This appears more like some pet project from some Polanski hater to dedicate this page solely to him, since I'm sure there are plenty other French 'sex offenders'. Prove me wrong, or make the effort to list EVERY [proven] sex offender, be it on charges of unlawful sex with a minor or violent rape, that were ever known in France, famous or otherwise. Unless this page is populated by ALL those who were EVER convicted of a sex crime IN FRANCE, famous or otherwise, this page is utterly 'pointless'. 109.153.105.18 (talk) 13:32, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Categories don't work that way. They only categorize people for whom the category attribute is a defining characteristic. They don't categorize ALL people that could ever fit within the category's definition. Wikiepdia is not a directory to information of this sort. Of course 'categories' 'work that way', or else why would it say on the actual page that it has to be 'populated'? To have this cat for ONE person is pointless. Besides, Polanski is not a 'sex offender' since he is not officially registered as one. It IS as I said, just a pet project cat to ‘define’ him as ‘sex offender’, while in my book he’s a director as foremost ‘definition’ & ‘characteristic’. Plus, if Wikipedia is not a 'directory to info of this sort', then this cat is in fact contrary to Wiki standards. 109.153.103.76 (talk) 05:28, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By ignoring my reply, you ignore the fact that this is a 'talk page', not 'ignore page'. (Shared IP.) 81.151.4.133 (talk) 00:32, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
