Move material to subcategories[edit]

Material from Category:Media in the province of Bolzano-Bozen has been moved here according to Wikipedia:Categorization and subcategories, since this is the subcategory. Material from Category:German-language media in the province of Bolzano-Bozen redirects to here, as this double category has been created later - possibly in a deliberate and disruptive attempt to avoid categorization under the existing name "...in South Tyrol".

Compare time of creation:

A recent proposal by User:Piccolo Modificatore Laborioso to delete all categories related to "South Tyrol" has been not agreed on. Therefore, the implication is that categories related to South Tyrol are still viable and legitimate. Hence, the creation of this new category cannot be controversial, either. It should also be noted that half of the media in the category explicitly bear the name "Südtirol" (="South Tyrol"). How absurd is it then to categorize these media by another name? In that light, I propose to delete the later created, superfluous category, called German-language media in the province of Bolzano-Bozen. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 16:01, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For the "side note": the proposal doesn't show anything more than the current existence of Tyrol, a more strictly related discussion last month proved for the nth time that there is no consensus on the matter, meaning they're both equally wrong as far as the community decisions are relevant. The order of creation does not affect this; also, this is no place for nominating anything for deletion, but I bet you know that already.--Le Petit Modificateur Laborieux (talk) 16:13, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For the second point: so if someone created a category named "xyz in Alto Adige", "xyz in Südtirol", "xyz in whatever else" it shouldn't be considered controversial, either? I remind you that categories named "Alto Adige" were also subjects of discussion, and its outcome was shared for all of them.--Le Petit Modificateur Laborieux (talk) 16:17, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In my view, the proposal shows that the community believes categories related to South Tyrol to be still viable. I don't see that the fact that there is no consensus on this implies any prohibition for creating new categories. In that light, I find it rather curious why the new category Category:German-language media in the province of Bolzano-Bozen was created, although there already existed one (Category:German-language media inSouth Tyrol). Obviously, the order is crucial here. Because, if not, then what would keep everybody from creating categories at random? Moreover, in this particular case, it is plainly obvious that Supparluca deliberately created his category, after he saw mine. On what basis did he do that? You called it right, there's nothing stopping anyone from creating thousands of categories for every name of this region, if not common sense, which is nonexistent when it comes to South Tyrol.--Le Petit Modificateur Laborieux (talk) 18:12, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hmmm, and who then gets to decide about which category to use if not you or I??? --noclador (talk) 00:26, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As in every other case, community consensus, in lack of which we can:
  1. start a frenetic, pointless edit war resulting in the block of all the users involved
  2. momentarily use both, as is the case in every page under the category South Tyrol
  3. reach consensus (suggested option)
