Purpose[edit]

What is the purpose of this category? Ethnicity? Location? - Sitush (talk) 11:20, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

it helps readers of articles about one of the tribes who may wish to find out about the others - i.e. it serves as a list of the tribes of the region. In my case, it alerted me to the tribes of Israel theory, which I take with a pinch of salt but found interesting. Apuldram (talk)
So you think it is based on location or ethnicity? And what actually is ethnicity anyway? - a very amorphous concept. - Sitush (talk) 12:07, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just throwing out a thought - Category:Tribes of Kashmir region. - Sitush (talk) 12:12, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
yes, my comment was based on location. Category:Tribes of Kashmir region would IMO be a better title. Apuldram (talk) 12:23, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It also creates confusion and misunderstanding the for people who don't have much pre-hand knowledge with regards to the different ethnic groups and many edits here on Wiki by many editors demonstrate exactly that. Common masses in the region when referring to Kashmiri tribes mean the ethnic Kashmiri people rather than anyone who lives in the region. The Gujjar community, the Dogras, the Pahari speaking Rajputs (of which Jarral form a subcategory) are seen differently and not as Kashmiris. It therefore does not make sense to place them under the Kashmiri Tribes category. Also if Jarral is placed as a Kashmiri Tribe then by the same token the Gujjars (along with their dozen castes), the Dogras and dozens of other tribes and castes can be placed in this category, but it just does not make any sense or serve any purpose to do so. This category must be meant for those who are refered to as ethnically Kashmiri. Thanks.Saqiboberoi (talk) 12:13, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So what is the conclusion? I am for removing Jarral from here, it is already placed under the "Punjabi Tribes" category which is far more appropriate than "Kashmiri Tribes".Saqiboberoi (talk) 15:05, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
