These vary according to sources but generally they were those several counties along the western reaches of the Missouri River, settled mostly by migrants from the Upper South, who brought slaves and cultivated the same crops as in the places they left: hemp and tobacco, especially.--Parkwells (talk) 14:23, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
