Not clear what the purpose of this category is[edit]

This category is used to tag both political scandals (in which there are credible allegations or concrete findings of wrongdoing) and mere controversies, in which there are strong feelings on both sides of an issue. It is difficult to imagine how one could impartially determine what is "controversial" and what is not. Mqst north (talk) 09:43, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Which assumes that all controversies are scandals, which doesn't seem correct - although the converse seems true, and so "scandals" could redirect to "controversies". As to what would count as "controversial", see Controversy: " Controversy is a state of prolonged public dispute or debate, usually concerning a matter of conflicting opinion or point of view." Not all scandals are "prolonged", but there is also the notability requirement: WP:N. Wikiain (talk) 23:31, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have nominated this category for deletion. Politics is by its nature controversial, so there's little value in separating out particular government decisions, elections, laws, policies or appointments as "controversial". For genuine scandals – instances of known or reasonably suspected wrongdoing – a scandals category exists. Mqst north (talk) 03:52, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Mqst north: it is WP:POINTy to remove articles from a category in order to nominate it for speedy deletion as empty, as you have done [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] & more. You are entitled to your point of view that the category is inappropriate, but the appropriate process for discussing specific proposals to delete, merge etc categoriesis is Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
