Recategorising[edit]

This category was renamed from Places of interest in Birmingham, England to Visitor attractions in Birmingham, England to accord with the general practice within the UK cats. The archived discussion can be viewed at Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2005 September 23#Non-standard visitor attractions categories.

It appears that the Places of interest cat was being used as a catch-all for Birmingham locations, some of which can scarcely be called visitor attractions - e.g. Frankley Water Treatment Works. I'm therefore planning to recategorise those that do not belong in the newly titled cat as per the archived discussion. Most will be going to Category:Buildings and structures in Birmingham, England which I have previously removed as a subcat of the Places of interest cat and made a subcat of the main Category:Birmingham, England. It appears that the category's scope, which was deliberately wide, has been narrowed, causing such problems. It's a pity that the proposal to rename the category wasn't mentioned on the Birmingham talk page. Furthermore, your removal of several articles of Birmingham interest from the new category leaves them with no Birmingham categorization,. This helps interested readers, how, exactly?
