Asha Prasuna is an Indian Economist, Academician and Researcher. She is presently serving as Professor & Head, Department of Economics at K J Somaiya Institute of Management Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai. For past 10 years, working as a full professor of Economics handling subjects Econometrics, International Finance, Macroeconomics, Economic Indicators for MBA and Executive MBA, and PhD programs.  

She has over 25 years of Industry, Academic, Research, and Consultancy experience. She obtained MA, M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Economics from University of Hyderabad. She is a recipient of UGC JRF and SRF during her doctoral studies. Her Industry experience includes AVP Economist at Unit Trust of India, Senior Domain Specialist at Dun & Bradstreet India. She was granted two copyrights, two patents, and had published one patent. She published several research papers in peer reviewed journals and jointly published six textbooks. She is on the Editorial Board and Guest Editor for a special issue of one of the Springer Nature journals. She served as a member of Finance Academy of a leading conglomerate and a rating agency based at Mumbai.

Early Life

Asha Prasuna did her schooling at Andhra Girls High School, Khammam and awarded Merit scholarships during 7-9^th standard for securing the class first rank and won several prizes quiz, essay writing, elocution competitions, and participated in games.

She completed her graduation Bachelor of Arts from the Government Women’s College in regional language (Telugu medium) from Khammam District in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh (Now Telangana). Secured merit scholarship based on her 12^th marks for three years of graduation. Received certificates of appreciation in elocution, quiz, games and sports. Also participated in National Integration Camp conducted at Kanpur University, NSS camp at a rural village helping the households in various activities and attended 10-day Entrepreneurial Development Program conducted by the district Small Industries Board.

Her higher studies were in the field of Economics at University of Hyderabad where she earned her M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees with UGC fellowships during the research. All along her studies, she secured first-class throughout.

She worked as AVP - Specialist Economist at the Unit Trust of India’s Corporate Office in Mumbai. She created a research team of economists that prepares weekly, monthly and daily reports on Economic data for use by fund managers and other stakeholders. She was instrumental in preparing the valuation of securities through daily yield curve estimation, risk- adjusted returns and performance reports of the equity schemes. She was also supporting in preparing the impact reports on economic policy changes and budget impact on fund performance.

She served at Dun & Bradstreet India Information Services Pvt Ltd as a Senior Domain Specialist during 2006-2013. She designed and executed corporate training programs and certifications on economics and financial markets for various companies. She co-authored three text books that were published by Tata McGraw-Hill (TMH), which were used as course material for the training programs.

At KJ SIM, in addition to the academic teaching for MBA students as a full professor of Economics and International Finance, she conducts research and consultancy projects. She provides guidance to the research scholars, and published two text books besides presenting and publishing research papers at peer-reviewed journals along with three patents.  She is also the Chairperson of two Centers of Excellence – Economics and Case Research Centre. She is on the Editorial Board for one of the Scopus journals. She served as a Guest Professor at a public university THI, Ingolstadt, Germany. She collaborates with the faculty members at Seattle University, USA, and the University of Hull, UK.

Currently leading the KJ SIM Case Research Centre from 2020 onwards handling the collaboration with Harvard Business Publishing Education (HBPE) as a case collection partner institution.

As Chairperson of Centre for Economic Policy Analysis & Research (CEPAR), organised and conducted nine consecutive Annual Conferences and Workshops and round-table conferences (RTC) and published proceedings.
