Dendro-art is a school within Contemporary Bio-art, an art&science practice that constructs a new relationship between humanity and the plant world in general – and trees in particular. This relationship is framed as a partnership; it is based on the philosophical and scientific conception of "living systems", and it shapes a new ecological consciousness.

Overview[edit]
Contemporary technologies are forging and transforming new invisible links between various spheres of human activity. Artists are investigating the nature of these links and the models of their interaction. They present a new vision and pose more ambitious challenges. These challenges include the construction of both intra-specific and inter-specific communication; the recreation of vanished species of plants (and trees in particular); the ecological education of the population – and, more broadly, environmental protection[2].
The term[edit]
The terms "Dendro-art" and "dendro-artist" reflect the birth and crystallization of a new school within Bio-art, which we now witness. The definition of Dendro-art as an independent artistic phenomenon has been one of the most significant discoveries made during 7-year-long study of Dr. Lilia Chak (Art & Science Department, Sorbonne University, Paris).
For the first time, the term Dendro-art introduced by Lilia Chak`s report at the Negev Museum of Art (Beer Sheva, Israel, 2019) at the International symposium "Art and Biology: The Meeting Point", organised by Sorbonne in collaboration with CNRS, with Prof. Olga Kisseleva, Dr. Aya Lurie, Dr. Elaine Solowey, Dr. Dalia Manor, Prof. Ariel Novoplansky, Prof. Ilia Rodov, Dr. Sue Frumin etc.
Dendro-art is the syncretism of philosophy, biology and Contemporary art, creating a unique nexus of interdisciplinary exploration.
Within Dendro-art projects, the conventional notion of an "artist" transcends human boundaries and extends to include trees as co-participants. This paradigm shift is a novel development within the art world. Nowadays, Dendro-art projects are showcased in museums worldwide, prompting researchers in Contemporary art to investigate this phenomenon. Issues regarding the formation and development of the Dendro-art movement are being discussed at numerous International symposiums.
