Five Star Chemicals & Supply, LLC, commonly shortened to Five Star Chemicals, is an American chemical company providing products for brewing, distilling, wine making, and cider making industries. It was established in 1980 and is currently based in Arvada, Colorado.[1][2][3]

It is currently owned by PurposeBuilt Brands.[4]

Brands[edit]

Five Star Chemicals owns a number of branded products that are widely used both in beverage industries, and hobbyist communities.

Acid #5 is an acidic cleaner and stainless steel passivation agent.[5] Its active ingredients include nitric acid and phosphoric acid.[6]

Acid #6 is an acidic detergent suitable for usage in high carbon dioxide environments.[7] Similarly to Acid #5, its active ingredients include nitric acid and phosphoric acid, but are in different proportions.[8]

IO-Star is a low-foaming sanitizer.[9] Its active ingredients include iodine and hydriodic acid.[10]

PBW, or Powdered Brewery Wash, is a trademarked and patented[11] alkaline cleaner. Its active ingredients include disodium carbonate, sodium percarbonate, sodium metasilicate, and sodium lauryl sulphate.[12] It is offered in powdered, tablet, and liquid forms.

Saniclean is a trademarked low-foaming acidic cleaner.[13][14]

Star San is a trademarked[15] food-safe acidic foaming sanitizer that does not require rinsing. Its active ingredients include phosphoric acid and benzenesulfonic acid.[16] It is widely used in both professional and hobbyist settings.[17][18]

Star-Xene is a chlorine-based disinfectant. Its active ingredient is sodium chlorite.[19] It is intended to be mixed with citric acid to produce chlorine dioxide.[20]

Super CIP is a low-foaming alkaline cleaner intended for protein stain removal.[21] Its active ingredients include sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, and trichloroisocyanuric acid.[22]
