Early life and career[edit]

Drastik has been obsessed with hip-hop since he was eight years old and started songwriting at age 10. By the time he was in high school, Drastik started rapping locally and even released a mixtape titled 1 Man Band: I Don't Need Da Band which featured guest appearances from Royce Da 5'9", Anthony Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and other artists. One day, he was discovered by Pitbull and signed the New York rapper to Mr. 305 Inc. after the two met at a radio station.

On February 16, 2010, Jamie Drastik released his debut major label mixtape The Magnet under Mr. 305 Inc.[1] and Famous Artist Music. It was hosted by Pitbull and DJ Delz. The mixtape landed Drastik exclusive interviews online on YouTube, including an interview with 50 Cent's This is 50 and guest starred on Mic Check Live.[2] The Magnet was rated one of the top ten mixtapes in 2010 and even landed a spot on Music Choice.

One day before the release, Drastik threw a release party at a club called Greenhouse which is located in New York with guests like Kid Capri, Jennifer Buonagurio, David Rush, Greg Avila, Christina Hopkins, Ghostface Killah, Johnny Donovan and many others.[4]

On June 17, 2011, Pitbull released the song "Castle Made of Sand" from the album Planet Pit which features vocals from Kelly Rowland and Drastik. A video for the song was released on Pitbull's YouTube channel which only contains Pitbull's verses, although it features a cameo from Drastik in the video. On August 24, 2011, Drastik performed "Castle Made of Sand" at the MGM Grand along with his single "Save Me".[5]
