From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mandalay Sports Media (MSM) is an American sports production and media company.[1][2][3][4] It develops motion pictures, scripted series, documentaries, and unscripted series.[5][6][7] MSM’s notable productions include The Last Dance, The Redeem Team, and The Captain.[8][9][10][11]

Overview[edit]

MSM functions independently and shares resources with Mandalay's existing sports entities,[12][13] Mandalay Professional Sports,[14][15] which co-owns The Golden State Warriors and Mandalay Baseball.[16][17][18]

MSM programs are distributed across Netflix, ESPN, HBO, CBS, Discovery+, Turner Sports, Showtime, Fox Sports, FIFA, and Vice Media.[19][20][21][22]

History[edit]

Mike Tollin and Peter Guber co-founded MSM on March 21, 2012.[23][24][25][26] Headquartered in Studio City, California, USA,[27][28] is a subsidiary of Mandalay Entertainment Group, an American entertainment company.[29][18] In 2015, Dick Glover was appointed as the CEO of the company.[30][31][32]

In 2015, Sports Illustrated Films initiated a collaboration with Mandalay Sports Media and Velocity to produce additional new programming under the new banner.[33][34][35][36]

In 2014, MSM partnered with the La Costa Film Festival to help curate its sports-themed narrative and documentary program and expand its reach to filmmakers and distributors.[37][38][39][40] The festival showcased features, documentaries, shorts, and local filmmakers of all genres.[41][42][43][44]

MSM partnered with filmmaker Frank Marshall to produce a five-episode signature documentary series for the International Olympic Committee's global digital platform, the Olympic Channel.[45][46][47][48]

MSM and IMG initiated a joint venture to develop and produce sports-focused feature films. The partnership will launch its debut project, The Art of Fielding, based on the book by Chad Harbach.[45][49][50][51]
