Markus Sajogo (1 July 1941 - 20 May 2016) was an Indonesian lawyer. He was a well-known lawyer based in Surabaya. He was the founder of Markus Sajogo & Associates Law Firm.

Early Career[edit]

As a young law graduate, Markus' passion and dedication to law and justice drove him to start a career as an advocate, a profession that was unpopular back in the 1960s. His law career as a counselor was mentored by Buddi Tedjamulia, S.H. and Prof. MR. (Meester in de Rechten) J. Hardjawidjaja (Oey Pek Hong), senior public prosecutor and prominent law professor. Since 1967, his practice has been carried out in his home at Jl. Untung Suropati 64, Surabaya, an address which is preserved as the address of the firm up to the present day.[1]

During the early years of his career, Markus Sajogo worked in various areas of law, generally on civil, criminal, real estate, and family law. Building trust from his clients and experience from his cases, his esteemed reputation constantly grew among the people of Surabaya and East Java. Due to his high-profile cases and social activities as well as his close relationship with the media has completed his profile as one of the most prominent attorneys in Surabaya.[2]

He accepted more professional associates in his law firm, which has always been known as Markus Sajogo & Associates, after swiftly becoming popular among those who seek justice. Markus Sajogo and his colleagues have provided services and sustained professional relationships with governmental agencies and other social groups on a national and worldwide level. The world's most esteemed social organizations, Lions Clubs International and Rotary Clubs International, recognized him as the only recipient of both the Paul Harris Fellow and the Melvin Jones Fellow designations. Additionally, the President of the Republic of Indonesia has given him the highest honor for social contribution—the "Satya Lencana Award."[3]

During his lifetime, Markus wrote a book entitled "Memoirs of an Advocate". The book, which he compiled and wrote himself, contains 13 memoirs that Markus wants to share with the public.[4]

The senior graduate of Merdeka University (Unmer) Malang is also one of the founders of the Djataju Surabaya Animal Lovers Association, former President of the Lions Club, and former Chairman of the Legal Bureau of the Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the East Java Anti-Narcotics Movement (Granat).[5]
