Mubina Khondkar is a member of Bangladesh Public Service Commission, a quasi judicial constitutional body responsible for the recruitment of officials to the Bangladesh Civil Service.[1][2]. She has been in this position since February 2022, when she was sworn in by the Chief Justice of Bangladesh[3].
Career[edit]
Mubina is also a professor on deputation, at the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Business Studies, at the University of Dhaka[4]. She was Provost of Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall from April 2014 to July 2018[5][6] and Chairperson of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management from November 2009 to November 2012, at the University of Dhaka. She was an Elected Executive Committee Member of Dhaka University Teacher’s Association for two terms in 2010 and 2015; and an Elected Member (Teacher) of the University of Dhaka Senate for two terms from 2017 to 2020[7] and from 2013 to 2016. She was a member of Bangladesh Tourism Board, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, from 2010 to 2013[8].
Mubina completed her Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) from the Institute of Development Policy and Management (IDPM) at The University of Manchester, under the supervision of Professor David Hulme OBE between 1994 and 1998 . Her thesis was titled "Women’s Access to Credit and Gender Relations in Bangladesh"[9]. She was awarded a Commonwealth Commission Scholarship to undertake her PhD and her work "Micro-Credit Narratives and Women's Stories" was published as an IDPM discussion paper in 2000[10]. She is an internationally published researcher in the fields of Development Studies[11][12] and Services Marketing[13][14]. In 2013 she conducted research as an Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Development Studies at The University of Cambridge.
Personal life[edit]
Mubina's paternal grandfather[15] was Khondkar Shams Uddin Ahmed (খন্দকার শামস্ উদ্দিন আহাম্মাদ) of Gopalganj, who was an elected MLA (member) of Bengal Legislative Assembly from 1936 to 1947, and subquently East Pakistan Provincial Assembly from 1947 to 1954.
