Draft:Online gambling in the United States

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Online gambling in the United States has existed in various forms and various levels of legality. The first time online gambling was available to those in the United States was in 1994 after the Free Trade and Processing Zone Act in Antigua and Barbuda. While the online casinos were not domiciled in the United States, consumers had access to various off-shore online casinos that were at that point unregulated by US federal statute. The first attempt to regulate online gambling in the US failed with the Internet Gambling Prohibiation Act in 1996; however, in 2006, the US government passed the Unlawlful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
