Ridge Lovett (born August 25, 2000) is an American folkstyle, freestyle, and greco-roman wrestler who competes at 149 pounds for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Folkstyle career[edit]

High School[edit]

College[edit]

Lovett committed to Mark Manning and the Nebraska Cornhuskers as the 19th-ranked pound-for-pound recruit by FloWrestling.

2019–20[edit]

Lovett began the season redshirting and would place first in the Daktronics Open as a 133-pounder.[1] On November 24, 2019, Lovett had his redshirt status pulled against Northern Iowa.[2] In his dual meet debut, Lovett scored first but would be defeated by Jack Skudlarczyk 8–2.[3] Subsequently, Lovett wrestled with Nebraska in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational.[4] He would finish the tournament with a 5–1 record and a third-place finish.[5] In his first four dual matches after his entrance into the starting lineup, Lovett would lose by three or more points, two of which were major decisions. He would, however, win his first dual match against Michigan State's Garrett Pepple in the way of a 5–0 decision.[6] During the Big Ten Championships, he would secure a takedown in the 7th-place match to earn an automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Division I Championships,[7] which would later be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[8] He would finish the season with a 17–8 record.

2020–21[edit]

Lovett gained some weight during the offseason, electing to wrestle as a 149-pounder. The NCAA postponed the 2020–21 season to January due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Competing as a sophomore, Lovett won three extra matches and two dual matches finishing the regular season 5–0. During the Big Ten Championships, Lovett finished 3–1 with his lone loss coming against Sammy Sasso in the 149-pound finals. During the 2021 NCAA Division I Championships, Lovett finished 1–2 and would not place. He would finish the 2020–21 season with a 9–3 record.

2021–22[edit]

2022–23[edit]

After winning the Cowboy Open, Lovett took his available redshirt to improve his skills.[9]

2023–24[edit]

Freestyle career[edit]

Age-group[edit]

2015[edit]

In 2015, Lovett started wrestling at the cadet level for freestyle and Greco-Roman. In his first competition, Lovett won the triple crown at the 2015 West Cadet Regional as an 88-pounder. Later in the year, Lovett finished fifth at the USAW Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals and second at the Men's Freestyle Nationals.

2016[edit]

In 2016, Lovett finished sixth at the USAW/Cliff Keen Cadet Folkstyle Nationals and fifth at the UWW Cadet Freestyle Nationals. At the 2016 Cliff Keen West Cadet Regionals, Lovett finished second in Greco-Roman and fourth in freestyle. In July 2016, Lovett won the USAW Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals title and finished runner-up to Julian Tagg in the Freestyle Nationals.

2017[edit]

In 2017, Lovett started to wrestle in junior-level competitions, debuting at the 2017 Northwest Junior Regional. He would wrestle in all three events but only place in the freestyle bracket finishing third. At the 2017 UWW Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals, Lovett won gold in the 54-kilogram weight class. Again he would wrestle at the West Regional, finishing with gold in freestyle and silver in Greco-Roman. Lovett's biggest tournament of the year was the 2017 USMC/USAW Junior Nationals. In the competition, Lovett would finish fifth in freestyle and third in Greco-Roman. Lovett would also qualify for the 2017 World Cadet Wrestling Championships in Greco-Roman, finishing 2–1 and not placing.

2018–2019[edit]

In 2018, Lovett won the USAW Junior Folkstyle and Greco-Roman Nationals but fell in the finals of the Freestyle Nationals. He would repeat the same outcomes at the 2019 USAW Junior Nationals.
