Shriram Pistons and Rings Ltd (SPR) manufactures and sells engine valves, pistons, and piston rings for the automotive sector.[1] The company has been around for more than 50 years and was founded by Dr. Charat Ram, a former president of the industry chamber FICCI from 1973-1974.[2] [3]

Mr. Krishnakumar Srinivasan is the MD and CEO of the company at present.[4] Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd. (SPR) provides services including design and development, validation, and manufacturing of products for OEMs in India at its Tech centre[5] along with its headquarter at 3rd Floor, Himalaya House, 23, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi, Delhi 110001. Shriram Pistons and Rings Ltd (SPR) initially known as Shama Pistons and Rings Ltd., was incorporated in the year 1963. However, in 1972, the management of the Company was taken over by Dr. Charat Ram a leading industrialist and the Company was re-named as Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd.[8] [9]

Shriram Piston and Rings Ltd (SPR ) was re-incorporated in 1972 with a sales turnover of Rs. 3 million. Over the years, the company forged technical collaborations with KS KolBenschmidt GmbH, Germany in 1978, Riken Corporation, Japan in 1978, Honda Foundry Co. Ltd., Japan in 1989 and FUJI OOZX INC. JAPAN, in 1993[10] [11][12]

Shriram Piston & Rings Ltd (SPR) production increased by 2 million rings per month in December 2000 and 1 million engine valves per month in September 2005. The company received the TPM Excellence Award in 2004 and the TPM Special Award in 2007 from JIPM. [11] [12]

  • Shriram Pistons & Rings (SPR), recently acquired a majority stake in EMF Innovations for INR 78 crore. EMFInnovations is a company involved in the development of advanced automotive technologies.[15]
