Silas P. Wright served as mayor of Wilmington, North Carolina. He was a Republican. After white mob vuolence during the Wilmington insurrection of 1898 he and council members were forced to resign. He was succeeded by Alfred M. Waddell. Waddell blamed the violence on Blacks and Fusionist political leaders.[1]

He was elected by the city council in 1897 and fled November 10, 1898 in fear for his life.[2][3]

Wilmington was the center of African American political and economic power in North Carolina. The mob burned Alexander Manly's Daily Record building.[4]
