Teresa Rotschopf is an Austrian musician, singer-songwriter, and composer. She gained recognition as the lead vocalist of the band Bunny Lake before embarking on a successful solo career. Rotschopf is known for her unique musical style of dark-wave or dream-pop, incorporating a variety of musical influences into her compositions. She also composes soundtracks for film and television.
Early Life and Career Beginnings[edit]
Rotschopf's passion for music developed early in her life. She received piano lessons during her childhood and underwent vocal training during her adolescence. In 2004, she joined the band Bunny Lake as the lead vocalist, adopting the stage name "Suzy on the Rocks"..[1] The band quickly gained attention and performed at various venues worldwide, including Vienna, New York, Tallinn, and Acapulco. In 2009, Bunny Lake was honored with the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the category Electronic/Dance [2]
Transition to Solo Career[edit]
Following Bunny Lake's disbandment after the release of the fourth album, The Sound of Sehnsucht (Universal Music) in 2012, Rotschopf embarked on a solo career under the alias "O". In 2011, she collaborated with producer Patrick Pulsinger to create her first solo album, exploring her diverse musical influences. The album titled "Messiah" was released in 2018 and featured 18 guest musicians, blending synthesizers with pipe organs to create a unique sound. Rotschopf made her solo debut as an artist, performing alongside Patrick Pulsinger and pianist Martin Knorz at an event organized by the Austrian Cultural Forum New York.[3]
Further Achievements and Collaborations[edit]
In 2021, Rotschopf premiered a new composition titled "Open" at the renowned Viennese Musikverein. She also collaborated with Patrick Pulsinger to score the crime movie "Das Mädchen aus dem Bergsee" for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation ORF (broadcaster), earning a nomination for a Romy (TV award) in the same year. Rotschopf's talents extended beyond composing as she re-worked the hit song "West End Girls" by the Pet Shop Boys for the Berlin-based label Martin Hossbach.
In 2022, Rotschopf ventured into the world of film, appearing in the short movie "Dear Darkness" by Antoinette Zwirchmayr, while also composing the music for the film's soundtrack. Her multifaceted talents were further showcased in the second episode of the Tirol Landkrimi Series, which premiered at the Diagonale Filmfestival in Graz in 2023. Once again, Rotschopf collaborated with Patrick Pulsinger to score the series.[4]
Outside of her music career, Rotschopf holds a master's degree in sociology with a focus on music sociology. She actively participated in the music documentary "Oh Yeah, She Performs!" [5] and has also demonstrated her artistic talents through designing art books [6]. Teresa Rotschopf continues to push artistic boundaries, blending various musical styles and collaborating with talented individuals to create compelling and unique compositions.
