Ursicin Gion Gieli Derungs (5 January 1935 – 13 February 2024) was a Swiss philosopher and theologian. He was born in Vella, the center of Val Lumnezia, a Romansh-speaking valley in the Canton of Grisons, after completing his studies at the Disentis/Mustér Gymnasium, he studied Philosophy and Theology in Rome, Tübingen and Zurich, also obtaining a Doctorate in Theology. Member and former member of the Board of the Swiss Writers Association, of the Pen Club, of the Union of Romance Writers, the writer was also a member of the Italian Association for the Studies of Philosophy and Theology (AISFET) and was part of the editorial staff of the Quaderni di Servitium of the Servitium publishing house of Sotto il Monte Giovanni XXIII and the editorial team of the magazine "Philosophy and Theology". He made literary and theatrical translations (of Dante, Goethe, Shakespeare) and was the author of theological essays in Italian, German, Romansh; he was also a publicist, lecturer and collaborator on radio programmes. Formerly Professor of Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical University of S. Anselmo (Rome), in the mid-1970s he began teaching Latin, history and philosophy at the high school of the Swiss School of Milan. He died in Milan on 13 February 2024.[1]
