[1] About the V.League reorganization from the 2018/19 season

I post this here to so everyone sees what we're up against and to have a basis to work from. The whole thing is not clear in naming conventions.

2017/18 season:

League name Number of teams
V · Premier League Male and female 8 each
V · Challenge League I Male and female 8 each
V · Challenge League II Male 8, Female 6


From the 2018/19 season

League name Number of teams
League S1 Men 10, Female 12 (but only 11 are participating)
S2 League Boys undecided, girls 10
S3 League Men's unspecified, girls may be holding (indeed, no 3rd Division in 2018-19)

For starters, I've never seen the league divisions referred to as "S1, S2, S3". The S refers to the licensing requirements that teams have to pass in order to qualify for entering a Division.

The V.League website uses three different terms: (V1), (Division 1)[2], and (Premier Women's)[3] (pop up the "league" popup, under Official Record). Also you can see there that they still refer to the V2 as "Challenge League.

BTW - I have seen no announcements about a 'Challenge System' whereby Top Teams from V2 can challenge Bottom Teams from V1.

In December 2017 the V.LEAGUE had announced for the women’s V1 League (Top Division) that there would be a maximum of 12 teams. As the Forest Leaves Kumamoto ceased operations recently and had been one of the 14 teams with a S1 License which would have put them into the V1 League. There was some stipulation that the next highest ranked S1 team, JA Gifu Rioreina would be promoted to V1. However with today’s announced that there will only be 11 teams in V1, JA Gifu will be playing in the V2 League (second division) in 2018-2019.
