Career[edit]

Wilson attended Thousand Oaks High School in Thousand Oaks, California, where he played for his father Jack Wilson, a former MLB shortstop.[1][2] He played college baseball at Grand Canyon University.[3]

As a freshman at Grand Canyon in 2021, Wilson played in 47 games as a third baseman, hitting .313/.376/.440 with four home runs and 29 runs batted in (RBI). He moved to shortstop his sophomore year in 2022. He hit .358/.418/.585 with 12 home runs and 65 RBI over 59 games that season.[4] In 2022, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League.[5]

Wilson entered the 2023 season as one of the top prospects for the 2023 Major League Baseball draft.[6] His father also joined the team's coaching staff that season.[7]

On July 9, 2023, Wilson was selected with the sixth overall pick in the draft by the Oakland Athletics. He was one of seven prospects in attendance at the draft at Lumen Field and was interviewed live in venue after his selection.[8]
